|Quoin Island Turtle Rehabilitation Centre's "Under the Sea" Gala Benefit was a major first for the not for profit facility.
Over 160 community members attended the glamorous event, in support of marine wildlife care. We'd like to convey our deepest gratitude, as the event raised a total of $20,000 for QITRC!
The event was not only an opportunity to raise funds in support of the hospital's work, but also to promote the plight of marine turtles in our region, who've recently been under unprecedented stress from human and environmental impacts.
The evening started with the harbour cruise from Gladstone to Quoin Island Retreat, followed by a quick beverage on the jetty to enjoy the sunset. Arriving at the venue, guests were greeted by mermaid stilt walkers, surprised by a unique acrobatic performance and enjoyed live musical entertainment all night long. The band got the dancing started early, and went well into the night!
Our "Under The Sea" theme was featured throughout the functions food, drinks, desserts, themeing, digital displays and all the guests got into the spirit, wearing ocean blue and other "Under the Sea" outfits.
Our major raffle proved very popular with a holiday to the Sunshine Coast up for grabs! The auction items certainly made a major contribution to our fundraising goal. And the lucky door prize winners were very happy with their takings! The best dressed competition was certainly a tough decision for the judges, with several homemade outfits, some fun props and lots of enthusiasm all around.
Quoin Island Turtle Rehabilitation Centre owner and volunteer wildlife carer Bob McCosker gave all in attendance an insight into the world of turtle rehabilitation, and of the current conditions for these animals in Central Queensland. Many may not realise the true amount of time and commitment required to successful manage such a facility, and the volume and calibre of volunteers needed to keep things running smoothly. It is the combined passion of all involved that has resulted in such a successful, community run resource for our region.
An evening such as this couldn't have come together without our generous corporate sponsors, making the occasion and the fundraising possible; as well as our media partners helping achieve a SOLD OUT event!
With many people asking for tickets after we'd reached capacity, we are certainly excited to expand on this event next year, and already have an exciting theme up our sleeves.
With the ongoing support of our sponsors, our volunteers and our supporters, we will be able to continue to celebrate our community’s achievements, to promote awareness and to raise funds for the ongoing work of this permanent hospital facility.
A sincerethank you goes to everyone who gave their support to this event and those who continue to provide support to our cause.
